From tablet computers and flat-screen TVs at home to control elements in cars, household appliances and countless other applications. Displays have become an integral part of everyday life for most people in modern societies. And new applications are being added every day.
Nevertheless, the market for industrial displays has recently begun to falter. Herbert Weiss, Managing Director of German display pioneer GMS, explains why this is the case and provides an industry outlook for the year.
Full warehouses put a brake on expectations
“We are heading for a challenging situation this year. And that has a lot to do with the after-effects of the coronavirus pandemic,” says Herbert Weiss. “During the pandemic, demand skyrocketed in all areas and production and storage capacities were massively expanded. This led to high stock levels, which are only gradually being reduced. This in turn is hampering new developments and production.”
In addition, the unstable supply chains have led many electronics manufacturers and specialists to look for alternatives to components from the market-leading Chinese manufacturers. This trend is now reversing. “However, competitive pressure continues to increase, as more and more Chinese companies are also active on the German market in the opposite direction,” explains Herbert Weiss.
Focus on individual customer needs
This is why customized services are becoming even more important. “We are not just a supplier of modern display modules such as TFT displays, touch panels, OLED displays. LCD displays and much more. We are also a development partner and consultant. We use our more than 30 years of experience to provide the optimum display for every customer.”
The display specialist from Villingen also sees an opportunity in the fact that the aforementioned customized services are becoming increasingly in demand and overcapacities could slowly be reduced over the course of the year. “There are also new trends such as digital signage, which will become increasingly important,” explains Herbert Weiss. “As a specialist for precisely these display developments, we are ideally positioned to serve these trends and provide our customers with advice and support. And this expertise is more in demand than ever, as the technology is developing so rapidly.”
