Motorsport at the top level – GMS & Team Joos by RACEmotion in the 2023 ADAC GT Masters

The internationally respected ADAC GT Masters racing series is also known as the “League of Super Sports Cars”, in which the fastest GT cars compete against each other for the title. This season, GMS supported the Joos by RACEmotion team, in which the up-and-coming talent Finn Gehrsitz successfully drove a Porsche 911 GT3 R alongside professional racing driver Sven Müller.

“Teamwork makes the Dream work” – this motto applies in the business world just as much as in sport. Display specialist GMS has been practising teamwork successfully within the company for years and is also extensively involved in sport, where it supports specific teams. “Teamwork plays just as big a role in sport as it does in professional life. You can only achieve perfect results if you work well together and promote the strengths of each individual,” says Managing Director Hans Weiss, drawing a comparison. Moreover, in business as in sport, you have to assert yourself in a competitive environment, which is another parallel. For years, GMS has supported the professional ice hockey team Schwenninger WILD WINGS, which is a member of the top German ice hockey league (DEL), as well as specific teams in motor sports, where the focus is on promoting talent.

In 2023, GMS supported the Joos by RACEmotion racing team from nearby Vöhringen, which competed in the ADAC GT Masters with Porsche racing cars. Team Joos has been one of the top teams in this internationally acclaimed championship for several years and competed again in 2023 with a Porsche 911 GT3 R to win the 2023 title after finishing second in the previous year. At the wheel alongside Porsche works driver Sven Müller was young driver Finn Gehrsitz, who has already enjoyed many successes in various classes in his short career. In his first season in the top GT3 class, Gehrsitz wanted to take another important step.

The ADAC GT Masters season is mainly held as part of the world-famous DTM and comprises 12 championship races at six events. The GMS-supported Joos-Porsche made a big impression right at the start of the season in Hockenheim when the Gehrsitz/Müller duo won the Sunday race, making it clear from the outset that they intended to fight for the title this year. The following race weekend at the Norisring saw two more podium finishes with a third and a second place, which kept the driver duo very much in the title fight. Then it was off to the Nürburgring, where the third ADAC GT Masters event took place as part of the Truck Grand Prix. The quality of the Joos by RACEmotion team was demonstrated once again here, because despite unfavorable circumstances, the team was able to work hard to get the maximum out of the race and finish third on the podium again in Sunday’s race after a tenth place on Saturday. The 18-year-old youngster Finn Gehrsitz in particular impressed with an outstanding performance, which in the end even saw him take the lead in the standings and the “half-time championship”.

The second half of the season kicked off with the race weekend at the Sachsenring. Despite another very good performance, external circumstances prevented two podium finishes that were thought to be certain. While an unfortunate situation involving a late safety car on Saturday cost the Joos team second place, the team lost second place on Sunday due to a puncture shortly before the end of the race. Through no fault of their own, the team lost important points and also the lead in the championship. However, the team did not let this misfortune deter them from their path, but struck back in Spielberg. After the Porsche with the #91 had to be parked prematurely on Saturday after an unfortunate collision, the team managed a great second place on Sunday behind the team’s sister car, which was making a guest start. With these important points in their luggage, Finn Gehrsitz and Sven Müller could continue to dream of the championship ahead of the final weekend in Hockenheim.

However, the Joos by RACEmotion team’s racing luck ran out at the grand finale in Hockenheim with great weather and a fantastic backdrop. On Saturday, Gehrsitz and Müller were able to make up important points towards the top of the standings with a very good fourth place and thus still had intact championship chances until the start of the race on Sunday. However, these chances were over after just a few meters, as starting driver Müller was involved in a collision at the start through no fault of his own and parked the damaged Porsche in the pits after just one lap. The dream of the title was shattered and the retirement meant that the two drivers dropped back to fifth place in the very tight standings. However, young driver Finn Gehrsitz still took third place in the important Junior overall standings.
